Completed conservation easements on the 137-acre Dale/Engle/Walker farm in Buffalo Township, on two properties adjacent or near Penns Creek in Hartley Township and totaling over 150 acres, on 20 acres by the Hassenplug Bridge in Mifflinburg, and on a 77.5 parcel of the Montandon Marsh in West Chillisquaque Township, Northumberland County. Recently completed conservation easements on the Fletcher property, a 44-acre parcel of woodlands in White Deer Township and on the 26.5 acre Roll property on Montour Ridge in Northumberland County.  Work on other easements, including a 127-acre Snyder County property, is in progress;  

Secured DCNR funding for nearly 100-acres dedicated to public open space/recreation/environmental education along the Susquehanna River in Gregg Township;

Blazed and maintain four hiking trails: the Merrill Linn Trail (one-mile loop past glacial ponds off Mid-State Trail), the Dale’s Ridge Trail, the Koons’ Trail, and the Shamokin Mountain Trail. Brochures are available for the Dale’s Ridge, Shamokin Mountain, and Koons’ trails;

Work with local landowners in trying to protect Montandon Marsh, our area’s most significant natural site, parts of which are protected through a Key ’93 purchase grant and by a recently completed conservation easement; The Montandon Wetlands: A Special Place in Our Backyard, a 20 minute video was produced with Sheary Trust and Degenstein Foundation support ;

Actively engaged, along with Union County’s planning staff, in the completed Natural Diversity Inventory. Have voluntary stewardship arrangements with several local landowners to protect those areas identified through the study as being ecologically significant sites. Helped secure funding for a similar NDI for Northumberland County which ahs been completed;

Produce a newsletter called Sharing the Dream for the landowners of protected properties, their Conservancy stewards and trail keepers, as well as board and staff which keeps them informed of current preservation tools and efforts;

Organize educational seminars for local landowners, attorneys, developers, and appraisers. Past topics have included: how to plan and appraise conservation easements; innovative open-space subdivision planning. Also present field trips for area children, educators, and interested adults;

Prepared educational backpacks for use by local school children on Dale’s Ridge Trail as well as a kit of wetlands material which has been given to three area school districts;

Produced and distribute our Rural Routes brochures, which detail Union County’s natural and scenic areas and how to see them by bicycle or car; through a Degenstein Foundation grant produced a video called Vision of the Valley which is available for showing to local groups;

Secured two Edna M. Sheary Trust grants to fully equip the Halfway Run Environmental Center and build the Sheary/Linn amphitheater, both at R.B. Winter State Park;

Maintain an Adopt-A-Highway segment in Limestone Township for over a decade;

Initiated scientific study and protection of the nearly 86,000 acre Buffalo Creek Watershed with three grants from DEP and one from a private foundation; a video, You Are What You Drink: Reasons to Know and Protect the Buffalo Creek Watershed, premiered in 2004.
