Newsletter
The Conservancys newsletter, the Linn
Log, comes out in the spring, fall, and winter each year
and keeps members and friends up-to-date on issues and events. The
most current and archived Linn Logs give a sense
of the Merrill W. Linn Land & Waterways Conservancy and its
goals.
Buffalo Creek Watershed Alliance
The Buffalo Creek Watershed Alliance, a Linn Conservancy initiative, was founded under a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) start-up grant. Since its formation in 2002, BCWA has received grants that have underwritten comprehensive outreach programs, a study of the hydro-morphology of Buffalo Creek, the creation of a 20-minute video You Are What You Drink; Reasons to Know and Protect the Buffalo Creek Watershed, and an assessment of the physical, biological, and chemical health of the waterway and its tributaries. The organization is currently conducting a continuing water monitoring program and has opened a facility designed to help restore water quality in the headwaters of Buffalo Creek. For information about the BCWA, go to www.buffalocreek.org.

Conservancy Receives $5,000 Contribution
In June, it was announced that ConAgra Foods of Milton was the recipient of a ConAgra Sustainable Development Award for Climate Change & Energy Efficiency. The award comes as a result of ConAgra's application of a ceramic coating to its cooker shells, thus reducing heat loss and saving energy by using less natural gas. The award came with a $5,000 grant that the facility has awarded to the Merrill Linn Conservancy to support its efforts to protect and preserve significant ecological sites in our area. President Wayne McDiffett was presented with the check in a brief ceremony in July. Board members will determine how the money will be directed toward advancing the conservancy’s mission in the coming months. We thank the administrators of ConAgra of Milton for their environmental consciousness and for selecting Linn to be the benefactor of this award.
